Overview: Using FastMaint for maintenance management (FastMaint Web)

Maintenance management typically involves managing two different types of maintenance; unplanned (emergency) maintenance and planned maintenance. FastMaint allows you to manage both types with the same interface. In most maintenance departments, unplanned maintenance dominates over planned maintenance. It can be really hard to keep on track with planned maintenance when there is unexpected & urgent emergency maintenance to attend to!

When you first start using FastMaint you will need to define some equipment and/or locations (e.g. buildings/ rooms/etc.) which may require maintenance. You may/ may not define maintenance tasks for different types of maintenance jobs. Instead you can add such tasks as you go along and get familiar with FastMaint. Starting off you may decide to create all your maintenance work orders off the default unplanned task "Any Other Maintenance".

What is the default unplanned task?
This task is a template to create any ad-hoc or unplanned maintenance work order. By default it is called "Any Other Maintenance". If you cannot find this task, it could be because it may have been deleted or renamed. To check if has been renamed, on the Home page click on New link for a Work Request. This will bring up the submit work request page. Check the “Hint” section in the middle of the page just above the Equipment/ Location dropdowns. You should see text like “you can always use the same unplanned task ‘xxx…’ ”. The ‘xxx’ will correspond to the name of the default unplanned task in your system. If you do not see any task specified it means that the default unplanned task was deleted. In this case just create a new task with a frequency of unplanned and no ending date. Call it "Any Other Maintenance" and FastMaint will recognize it as the default unplanned task.

Do not modify the default unplanned task to associate any equipment/ locations/ parts with it. FastMaint will automatically associate the required equipment/ location when you create new unplanned work orders. You can however edit the instructions/ feedback section if you want to put some standard information e.g. a checklist/ entry form/ general instructions/ etc. on work orders created from this task.
